Mornings here are slow: chai, a window seat, someone's laptop open next to someone else's trek map. The kitchen keeps going through the day and into the evening, and on most nights there's music or a film. The rooms are just downstairs when you're ready for them.

Everything you need to know about Jibhi & Shoja
Jibhi sits in Himachal's Tirthan Valley, a few hours past the crowds most people associate with Manali. It's a working village first — apple orchards, a trout stream, wooden houses stacked up the hillside — and a traveller destination second, which is most of why people who come here for two nights keep finding reasons to stay for ten. Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake are both a manageable day trip away.
Shoja is a 30 to 40 minute taxi ride further up the same road, closer to the pass and noticeably colder once the sun drops. Guests stay with us in Jibhi and head up for the views, usually on the way to Jalori, with a coffee stop at The Rustic Café Shoja.

What is The Rustic in Jibhi and Shoja?
Two places on the same mountain road. The Rustic Jibhi is our backpacker hostel in Tirthan Valley, with dorms and private suites downstairs and the café upstairs. The Rustic Café Shoja is our café further up the road towards Jalori Pass, a good stop for coffee and a meal with a view. All our rooms are in Jibhi; Shoja is café only.
What is the best backpacker hostel in Jibhi?
We would say The Rustic Jibhi, though we are obviously not neutral about it. What we can tell you honestly: dorms including a female-only room, private suites if you want a door that locks, a team that has sorted out a thousand taxi-from-Aut questions, and Wi-Fi that holds up for work calls. Read the Google reviews and judge for yourself.
Why choose The Rustic over other hostels?
Plenty of hostels in the valley will give you a clean bed for the night, and that is fine if that is all you need. What we add is power backup so the Wi-Fi does not vanish with the grid, a female-only dorm with staff who take safety seriously, a café right upstairs, and evenings that usually have something happening: live music or a film, and a fire when the weather allows.
Is The Rustic good for a workation or long stay?
It was built with that in mind. The internet holds through power cuts, there are quiet corners in the café to work from, and a fair number of our guests came for four days and stayed a month. Long stays get a better nightly rate too, so ask us on WhatsApp for current pricing.
How do I book a room at The Rustic?

Is a valid ID required for check-in?
It is, for every guest, no exceptions: a government photo ID such as Aadhaar, a driving licence or a passport. This is required by Indian hospitality law, not something we added ourselves, so a PAN card alone will not work at the desk.
How do I reach Jibhi from Delhi or Chandigarh?
Most people take an overnight Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh to Aut, about 10 to 12 hours from Delhi, then switch to a local bus or taxi for the last hour or so into Jibhi. Message us your bus details before you leave and we will help line up that last taxi, so you are not negotiating fares half-asleep at 6 am.
Does The Rustic have live music, movie nights and bonfires?
On most evenings at The Rustic Jibhi there is live music or a movie, and a bonfire joins in when the weather allows. What happens on a given night depends on the season and who is staying, so check with the team when you arrive rather than planning your dates around a specific act.
What is the minimum volunteering period at The Rustic?
We ask for 45 days minimum. Shorter than that and you barely settle in before it is time to leave, which is not much good to either of us. The Volunteering page has the roles we are currently looking for and how to apply.
